10 - 11AM (E Broadway and S Crismon) Writing Lessons with U.S. History: Explorers – Gold Rush Covering the nine IEW units, this course integrates writing, grammar, and vocabulary into Early US History studies. The Student Book contains the student pages, assignment instructions, source texts, blank outlines, checklists, sample compositions, and vocabulary cards. For grades 6-8. No prior IEW experience required.
12 - 1PM (Val Vista and Southern) Fables, Myths and Fairy Tales Covering units 1-7, this resource infuses the acclaimed Teaching Writing: Structure and Style method with classic children's literature. Characters and adventures will capture your students' imaginations and provide rich writing content. Students learn how to take notes, summarize narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, and compose their own fables, myths, and fairy tales. For grades 3-6. No prior IEW experience
required.
1:30 – 2:30PM (Baseline and Ellsworth) FollowingNarnia: Writing Lessons in Structure and Style Using the first three novels in The Chronicles of Narnia® (The Magician's Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy), this series of 31 lessons designed for grades 6-8 beckons students to experience the enchanted land of Narnia through structure and style. For grades 6-8. No prior IEW experience required.
2:35 – 3:35PM (Baseline and Ellsworth) Writing Research Papers Twenty-page paper? No problem! Moving students beyond basic essay writing, this course teaches students to conduct research, manage note-taking, and craft a well organized paper. Perfect for completing high school and college-level term papers. For grades 10-12. Prior IEW experience or a solid foundation in essay writing required.
ANTHEM on Tuesdays, beginning August 21:
9:30 – 10:30AM (North Valley Parkway and Foothills Dr) Geography-Based Writing Lessons Excellence
in Writing and Beautiful Feet Books have teamed up to provide a course of instruction that incorporates geography, science, history, and writing instruction all using the classic works of Clancy Holling. While students learn history and geography from the Caldecott and Newbery award-winning works of Mr. Holling, they will also enjoy discovering the principles of writing with structure and style developed by Andrew Pudewa. For grades 3-6. No prior IEW experience required.
10:35 – 11:35AM (North Valley Parkway and Foothills Dr) Writing Lessons with U.S. History:
Explorers – Gold Rush Covering the nine IEW units, this course integrates writing, grammar, and
vocabulary into Early US History studies. For grades 6-8. No prior IEW experience required.
Each 4-week session is $70 for the first child, $60 for the second child from the same family, and $50 for additional children beyond two from the same family. I offer a 10% discount for pre-payment of all 4 sessions in the first semester of the 2012-2013 school year. I require a minimum commitment of one semester from families interested in enrolling their students into my classes, so that the same group of students can progress through the units.
In the group class setting, your child will get instruction time from an accredited instructor, classroom hand-outs, assignments that are tailored to his/her individual level of comfort and skill writing, feedback on their writing, and paper grading (using an IEW checklist). Per IEW's regulations, I am not permitted to teach parents TWSS.
